Nobody publishes this. Ask how far it is from Sapporo to Abashiri and you will find a blog post with a pin on a map, a coach timetable, or a number somebody half remembers. What you will not find is a figure you can check. So this is that table: thirty-four places, 1,122 pairs, every road distance and driving time measured rather than guessed.
The reason it matters is scale. Thirty-eight per cent of the pairs below are more than three hundred kilometres apart. Sapporo to Nemuro is 417 km and a little over five hours. Rausu to Hakodate, the longest run on the table, is 665 km and eight and a half hours — a day, not a leg of one. Itineraries written for Kansai do not survive here, and they fail the same way every time: three stops planned into an afternoon that only holds one.

Method: road distance and driving time are the fastest route between each pair, measured 2026-09-02 with the OSRM driving profile over OpenStreetMap. Figures are directional — which way you are going changes them. They are not the corridor distances in the sheets, because a sheet follows the road worth driving: Abashiri to Kushiro is 230 km over Bihoro Pass and round three lakes, and about 151 km if all you want is to arrive. Straight km is great-circle between the published coordinates. Winter time (×1.35) and fuel (7.8 L/100 km) are assumptions, not measurements. Rishiri is absent because the crossing is a ferry. A routing engine’s time is an optimistic one, and why that matters here is its own article.
Where the table disagrees with one of the road sheets, both numbers are right and they are measuring different things. The table gives the fastest way between two points. A sheet gives the road worth driving, which is usually the longer one: Abashiri to Kushiro is 151 km if all you want is to arrive, and 230 km over Bihoro Pass and round three lakes, which is the entire reason to go.
One thing these figures leave out: they are driving times, and the clock starts when the car does. If the day begins at New Chitose, the shuttle to the rental office and the counter work come before the first kilometre — a plan that fills day one from this table is already behind.
